연말연시, 사회 각계에서 한해를 정리하고 전망하는 자리들이 마련된다.

대중음악, 팝 음악계도 빼놓을 수가 없는데,

팝 음악계의 수많은 시상식들 가운데, 최고의 권위를 자랑하는 것이 바로 그래미 시상식이다.

제48회 그래미 시상식 후보자 명단이 현지시간으로 12월 7일 발표됐다.

National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences(NARAS) 회원

15000명이 무기명 투표로 수상자가 결정되는 그래미의 후보자 선정은

2005년 10월 1일부터 2006년 9월 30일까지 미국내에서 발매된

모든 레코드(소리로 녹음된 모든 것)를 대상으로 했다.

내년 2월 11일 L.A 스테이플스 센터에서 거행되는

제49회 그래미 시상식에 힙합 음악계의 여왕으로 불리는

메리 제이 블라이지가 올해의 노래와 최우수 R&B 앨범을 포함해서 8개부분에 후보로 올랐다.

올해 초 the Breakthrough 발매,

Be Without You, Enough Cryin' U2와 함께 한 One 등이 사랑을 받았다.

정확하게 12월 28일 발매되서 앨범차트 넘버원에 오른 뒤,

올 상반기 제이미 폭스의 데뷔 앨범과 함께 업치락 뒤치락 앨범 차트 정상을 다퉜다.

메리 제이 블라이지의 초기작인 What's My 411, My Life처럼

이번 앨범에도 그녀의 개인적인 느낌들이 담겨있는 앨범이다.

발매 초부터 지금까지 그녀의 음악경력중에서 최고의 앨범이 될 것이란 예상처럼

그래미에서 8개부분에 후보로 올라갔다.

2장짜리 더블 앨범을 발매한 4인조 얼터너티브 락 밴드 Red Hot Chili Peppers(이하 RHCP)도

RHCP는 이미 지난 11월 21일 팬들이 선정하는 최고의 팝 스타를 가리는

아메리칸 뮤직 어워즈에서 가장 인기있는 팝/락 그룹과

가장 인기있는 얼터너티브 아티스트를 수상했다.

밴드 활동 경력중에서 발매 첫주 가장 많은 판매고인

44만 2천장으로 앨범차트 넘버원으로 데뷔했으며,

첫 싱글 Dani California는 RHCP에게 9번째 빌보드 모던 락 차트 넘버원 곡을 선사했다.

전세계 차트를 강타한 영국의 싱어 송 라이터 제임스 블런트,

올 여름 Crazy로 폭발적인 인기를 누렸던 팝 듀오 날스 바클리,

그리고 올초 3121을 발표한 프린스도 R&B 카테고리에서만

감각적인 힙합 비트와 지글거리는 LP의 스크래치 같은 느낌을 한데 묶음으로서

Old & New의 가장 이상적인 조합을 이끌어냈다.

2006년 데뷔작 St. Elsewhere는 분명 제49회 그래미의 가장 중요한 부분을 차지할 것 같다.

3개부분에 후보로 올라가 있다. 이 앨범은 자신들의 히트곡과 직접 고른 팝 음악을

자신들만의 색깔로 리메이크 한 앨범이다.

올 여름 44번째 앨범 Modern Times를 발매한 밥 딜런,

발매 첫 주 19만 2천장의 판매고로 30년만에 빌보드 차트 정상에 올라 국내에서도 뉴스거리 됐다. 

그래미에서도 밥 딜런의 신보를 락 카테고리에서 2개부분에 후보로 올려놨다.

3년만에 신보를 발표한 80년대 팝 아이콘 라이오넬 리치에게

R&B 카테고리에서 2개, 올해 80번째 생일을 맞이한 살아있는 전설 토니 베넷이

자신의 생일을 기념하기 위해 발표한 Duets: An American Classics앨범에서 2개,

그리고 폴 맥카트니, 탐 페티등에게 각각 한개부분에 후보로 올려놓고 있다.

강력한 카리스마를 뿜어내는 KT 툰스톨등은

앞으로 그래미가 사랑하게 될 영국 가수들이 될 것 같은 느낌이 든다..

늘 그렇듯 가장 큰 관심을 끄는 최다부분 수상자가 누가 될 것인가이다.

하지만, 지난 48회 그래미 시상식에서 머라이어 캐리가 8개부분에 후보로 올라

R&B 카테고리에서만 3개부분을 수상한 것 처럼

오는 49회 그래미에서도 그런 상황은 연출 될 수 있다.
